Walk Grade: 6.5miles, 600ft ascent, some steep hills, a few stiles 3hours – this walk requires an element of fitness
The walk starts from the centre of the medieval market village of Lacock, with its superb architecture and houses dating back over 800 years. The route opens up to beautiful views of the surrounding countryside and the River Avon. It follows a section of the Wilts and Berks canal (under construction). The walk ascends Nocketts Hill which can be muddy when we leave the canal (if too muddy an alternative route follows a quiet lane). We follow the route through part of Bowden Park with views looking over the historic Lacock Abbey. The final part of the walk follows the River Avon, as it flows through the valley of Snaylesmeade on which stands the Abbey.
The walk consists of flat fields; minor roads; canal side footpaths; woodland and parkland.
