We are pleased to offer this special walk as part of the North Wessex Downs AONB 50TH Anniversary Walking Festival.
On the longest day we enjoy an early walk up to the top of the North Wessex Downs.
Today`s Walk: Inkpen - Walbury Hill - Combe Gibbet Circular Walk
Starting in the village of Inkpen we walk towards West Woodhay and then climb to the top of Walbury Hill (297m) is the highest point in the North Wessex Downs AONB for spectacular views across 3 counties of Wiltshire, Hampshire and Berkshire.
We then carry on along the ridge to the infamous Combe Gibbet - there is a story of murder and ghosts!
Then descend back to Inkpen for an optional coffee and cake at the start in the Honesty Cafe at the Crown & Garter.
This walk is a longer walk and is open to non-polers. If you would like to try poles please contact me in advance to arrange to borrow some of our strapless activiator poles.
Length and Grade: A 6 mile walk with elevation gain of 220m from Inkpen to Walbury Hill which is highest point in the North Wessex Downs AONB. You should have moderate fitness to join this walk as there are some steep ascents and descents although we will go at a moderate pace and take plenty of stops for water, photos and views.
Location: Start at car park at the Crown & Garter pub - use the parking along the bridleway where possible.
Notes: There are toilets at the pub and a coffee shop for refershments after the walk - no booking required or you can reserve a table for lunch at the pub.
To join WALX Wessex walks you need to register and fill out a Physical Activity REadiness Questionnaire as part of the booking process.
