The Saturday Strider is led this week by NWUK Walk Leader Sue Kelly and is an easy/moderate pace 2-3 mile, 1 hour walk. Get some great Nordic Walking exercise, fresh air and chat! They are great walks to attend to build your fitness especially if you`d like to progress onto the faster paced or longer walks.
Meeting point - We meet outside the cafe at the Visitor Centre Car Park. (Sat Nav: M27 6NG). Plenty of free parking. Easily reached via exit 16 off the M60 or exit 2 off the M61, then along the A666 and turn down Clifton House Road (follow brown signs). Bus stop: Use the Clifton Cricket Club stop on Manchester Road (Bus numbers 8 and 22). Park is a short walk down Clifton House Road.
Why not come earlier for 10.30 & join in our cafe social between the end of the Early Bird Workout Walk and the start of the 11am session.... have a quick brew (option to bring your own mug to be more environmentally friendly & save 20p on your drink too) and have breakfast if you wish.
Toilet facilities are available at the cafe (along with the usual hot drinks and snacks).
Poles can be hired on the day for £1 (coin)

The POWER of THE POLES is a structured programme suitable for all ages and levels of fitness. Come and discover the joys of Nordic Walking and how to turn your walking into total body exercise using strapless poles which will enable you to learn more quickly and easily.
Your NWUK qualified instructor, Susan Spain, will help you understand your current level of fitness and empower you to use poles at an intensity level for the results you want. The session also includes advice on the different types of pole available including traditional strapped Nordic Walking poles.
Poles (strapless) are provided for your course.
Currently taught in a small group (max 3 plus instructor), at the end of the 90 minutes you will have a full understanding of how to use poles effectively and at a level where you can then join our Parks and Pathways regular walks and classes, sign up to other NWUK or WALX classes or simply get more out of walking in your own time.
The session price of £15 also includes your first walk with the group once you've completed your induction session. Your instructor will give you advice on which regular sessions are best suited to you. Regular walk sessions take place on Thursday & Saturday mornings at Salford venues & Monday mornings at Chorlton Water Park, Manchester (see full schedule for more info on the 1 hour Workout Walks or Motivator/Strider Walks. There are also monthly 2 or 3 hour walks on several dates a month).
There will also be an option to sign up to a second Power of the Poles 2 - 90 minute course - at a later date to discover more advanced Nordic Walking technique using strapped poles if you so wish.

This is a delightful and gentle scenic walk through Thorncombe Woods.
Suitable for all abilites with or without poles.
Thorncombe Woods has two beautiful areas where the Bluebells grow in abundance and we will visit both areas which will also take us past Thomas Hardy's cottage. Both areas have a very different feel to them which make them unique.
There is a wealth of wildlife – including resident Dartmoor ponies- and a varied range of mature trees and open scrubland from which, high up, there are magnificent views of the surrounding countryside with the Purbeck Hill’s in the distance. A walk not to be missed!
We will meet in car park, there is a charge of £1 per hour, to use the car park.

THIS IS A THREE DAY TRIP TAKING IN THE BEAUTIFUL BEACH OF WOOLACOMBE IN DEVON.
YOU ARE PAYING FOR THE WALKING ELEMENT HERE ONLY AND YOU WILL NEED TO ORGANISE YOUR OWN ACCOMMODATION. I WILL BE ABLE TO OFFER SUGGESTIONS.

1pm - Meet at The Red Barn and walk to The Putsborough Beach Shop where the owner Anthony is opening up especially for us. (If you want something to eat we might need to let him know).
Choice of 4 miles, 6 miles or 9 miles.
4.30pm - Optional night walk on beach.
7pm - Meet at local pub for a social evening.
SATURDAY 11th JANUARY 2025
10am - Meet at The Red Barn and we will walk on the coastal path over Mortehoe.
Choice of 6 miles or 11 Miles.
7pm - Meet at a local restaurant.
SUNDAY 12th JANUARY 2025
10am - Meet at The Red Barn for a lovely walk including Smuggling tales. (Approx 6 miles)
5pm - Meet at a local pub for a meal.
WOOLACOMBE IS QUIET AT THIS TIME OF YEAR (THE ATTRACTION FOR ME) AND HAS LIMITED PUBS AND RESTAURANTS BUT ENOUGH FOR US.
IT HAS A LOCAL SHOP IN CASE YOU ARE IN SELF CATERING ACCOMMODATION.

A great way to start the week is with an Active Mondays walk in and around Stanmore. Get ready for the weekend with a stimulating Saturday morning walk around Stanmore Country park. Or join us on a Sunday morning for a longer, faster paced walk in Ruislip Woods.These are intermediate walks, lasting one hour and will include some hill work. For those new to the area you`ll be surprised at the fantastic views over London that you get from Wood Farm Viewpoint, the hidden lakes in PearsWood and Bentley Priory and the seemigly endless trails through woods which change with the seasons.
Walkabout Wednesdays give the opportunity to travel a little further into neighbouring boroughs, or out along the Metropolitan line into the Chess Valley. Saturdays we`re always in the Stanmore Country Park, but we never tire of it as there are such a variety of trails to explore.
