Harrow Striders was started by Sue & Den Collen in April 2017. They have lived in Harrow for over 25 years but only realised the number of fabulous country parks on their doorstep since taking up Nordic walking 5 years ago. They now fully appreciate the great potential for improving health, fitness and well-being by exercising outdoors and want to share this with our local communities.and we wanted to share the health and wellness benefits we experienced with others in our local communities in the beautiful green spaces and green flagged parks around Harrow.

Capital Ring Walk Section 16

Published:

Our favourite walk so far – through Hendon Park onto the Brent Way, through lovely parks in Hampstead Garden Suburb onto Cherry Wood through to Highgate Wood and finishing at Queens Wood. Phew! We deserved our lunch and glass of wine in the much to be recommended Woodman in Highgate. Fantastic day out.

Capital Ring Walk Section 15

Published:

Section 15 from South Kenton to Hendon was the muddiest we’ve ever seen it. But seeing a heron on top of Fryent Country Park, the view from Barn Hill and the walk along the Welsh Harp Resevoit made up for it. Finished off nicely with a cup of tea and a slice of cake in […]

Stein’s Café near Richmond Bridge was a lovely stop for some well-earned Bavarian apple strudel and cream. You can still join in. Walk 2 will be from Teddington to Kew Bridge […]

Testimonials

from members of WALX with Harrow Striders

The social element is invaluable

During the pandemic I discovered the joy of Nordic Walking and discovered beautiful outdoor spaces on my doorstep.  The group leaders are fantastic, friendly and very experienced. The social element is also invaluable and I would recommend any novice to give it a try

Nobody is excluded

What Harrow Striders has done for me is to realise that despite the aging process I can continue to access the great outdoors in good company and feel safe and can continue to explore changing seasonable habitats . It is also the best way for me to achieve a good cardio vascular workout but enjoy being out of doors at the same time. Nobody is excluded, and it is encouraging to  join a group. It was a great relief to resume our walks when the Covid regulations allowed . Despite variable weather conditions, it gets me out on a Monday morning, and a good start to the week .The weekly on line updates are a great encouragement to see what the other groups are doing. Thank you for your very professional leadership, patience and good humour .

More Please

I cannot thank you enough for coming into my life!!! The walk today was amazing so beautiful. I love to be pushed and to have a good workout and would like more of this theme please. I had difficulties with the bare pathways as I am no expert on the roads with my poles yet! Otherwise I adored it! More,  more please!
