Walk Description:

An easy flat walk taking in a loop of beautiful Burton common.

This walk is around five miles and starts in Stewarts Garden centre.

We exit the carpark by the Timpson key cutter hut at the front of the store and briefly walk beside the bypass which is very noisy. The path then leaves for peaceful countryside where birdsong can be heard and buzzards seen.

We follow the single file path around the edge of fields to join a bridleway which heads into pretty woodland.

This takes us to Burton common. An SSSI of 79 acres. It is mature dry heathland with areas of deciduous woodland along the banks of a stream. We explore this area on wide paths which are mainly gravel and by the stream tends to be muddy.

Exiting the woodland we make our return along Ambury lane which is a wider path that completes this circular walk.

There are no stiles, thee small bridges with handrails. Muddy and puddles in winter. Sturdy boots required.

There may be cattle in a field adjacent to the path and there are sometimes a few cattle on the common.

Please park on the gravel at the rear of the car park.

Location Notes:

Please park in Stewarts garden centre. No restriction on time .Park in the rear car park on the gravel.
