A more gentle walk for those with a recent medical condition that means that mobility is limited, and who feel their fitness levels have declined as a result. The challenge is still to manage an hour walk, with rests when needed. Regularly weekly walks can bring improvements.
Start of the walk is at the same time of the other group. Warming up exercises are together and we meet again in the car park for a hot drink.

10.30AM START WITH PREWALK BREAKFAST SOCIAL FROM 9.30AM. Led by NWUK Instructor Susan Spain, the `Thursday Thunderer Workout Walk` is a 1 hour moderate to faster pace Workout Walk starting from different locations in the Salford area. These energising sessions will help you rebuild your stamina and fitness levels, push that pace without compromising on technique plus work on strength and core fitness. For those who have completed a Power of the Poles or Learn to Nordic walk course and have their Freedom code. Incorporates motivating drills and exercises using Gears 1, 2 and .... maybe some Gear 3. Will also incorporates some technique work to help you get the most out of your Nordic Walking.
THIS WEEK - starting from RHS Garden Bridgewater Car Park at 10.30am with an optional pre walk breakfast social at the RHS cafe at 9.30am. (If you bring your own cup you save £1 per drink)
Meeting point - RHS Garden Bridgewater Car Park (far end) or the RHS visitor centre cafe if coming for breakfast. RHS Garden Bridgewater is located off the A572 Leigh Road and can be accessed via Junction 13 of the M60 via the Worsley interchange roundabouts or from the A580 East Lancashire Road via the A577 or A572 . Follow the brown signs. Turn off the A572 Leigh Road at the RHS Bridgewater traffic lights onto Occupation Road. Follow the access road down and turn left in the car park. Park in the rows furthest away from the visitor centre on the left, immediately as you turn in the car park. This is where we will meet. The car park is free. There are toilets immediately on the left as you enter the visitor centre. Cafe for breakfast is on the right as you enter the visitor centre main doors and is open from 9am.

This course introduces you to the wonderful world of Nordic walking, a fun and very sociable way to get fit and stay fit, in beautiful surroundings.
The course is 4 x 1 hour lessons in two parts. Sessions 1 and 2 focus on learning the Technique of Nordic Walking, how to use and get the best from the special Nordic Walking poles. These 2 sessions will be 'same time, same place' usually a week apart.
Sessions 3 and 4 are Coaching sessions and you are invited to join one of our regular walks so you can meet and walk with other Nodic Walkers, while at the same time practicing your Nordic Walking skills under supervision. This helps you to 'move up a gear' and understand how to gradually increase your workload and learn how to Nordic Walk for fitness and/or weight loss - or just for enjoyment
We will provide proper NordicWalking poles for the sessions. Wear outdoor activity footwear and clothes suitable for the weather.

The POWER OF THE POLES Induction process is suitable for all levels and is a structured teaching programme. There are 2 Courses of one and a half hours each. Course 1 is designed to provide sufficient knowledge for someone to be proficient at using poles. Course 2 is an optional further course for those wanting to explore a more in-depth knowledge of walking with poles and the traditional Nordic Technique. I will help you to understand your current level of fitness and empower you to use poles at the correct intensity in order to get the results you want.
These courses will ensure you master the technique of using poles and change the way you walk for life. Course 1 will cover the following:
Mastering the power of Fitness Walking polesGear 1: Mastering the arm swing, upper body engagement and pole plant angle.
Gear 2: Gaining propulsion from the pole and toe push, adapting pole position for hills and tailoring technique to your fitness, mobility and personal goals.
You will experience different poles types, the core ledge and straps in order to select the technique and poles that are right for YOU!
At the end of this session, you will have a full understanding of using poles correctly and be at a level where you will be issued with the NWUK Freedom Passport, allowing you to join walks & classes.
Dress to suit the weather, ensuring that you have suitable footwear. Please bring water in a small rucksack or bumbag, so that your hands are free. All poles are provided
