This is an Intermediate/Gear 2 walk (the distance is greater than a Gear 1/Intermediate walk) of approximately 4 miles with a couple of different options according to the ground conditions. Maybe one or two short steep ramps and some longer hills can be included depending on sign ups, but as a rule the walk includes gentle inclines and hard tracks through woods.
Intermediate - A faster pace than Gear 1 and an established technique is key, but if necessary a little more recovery time for those that need it.
Gear 2 - A faster pace gained through technique. There will be less recovery time.

The POWER OF THE POLES Induction process is suitable for all levels and is a structured teaching programme. There are 2 Courses of one and a half hours each. Course 1 is designed to provide sufficient knowledge for someone to be proficient at using poles. Course 2 is an optional further course for those wanting to explore a more in-depth knowledge of walking with poles and the traditional Nordic Technique. I will help you to understand your current level of fitness and empower you to use poles at the correct intensity in order to get the results you want.
These courses will ensure you master the technique of using poles and change the way you walk for life. Course 1 will cover the following:
Mastering the power of Fitness Walking polesGear 1: Mastering the arm swing, upper body engagement and pole plant angle.
Gear 2: Gaining propulsion from the pole and toe push, adapting pole position for hills and tailoring technique to your fitness, mobility and personal goals.
You will experience different poles types, the core ledge and straps in order to select the technique and poles that are right for YOU!
At the end of this session, you will have a full understanding of using poles correctly and be at a level where you will be issued with the NWUK Freedom Passport, allowing you to join walks & classes.
Dress to suit the weather, ensuring that you have suitable footwear. Please bring water in a small rucksack or bumbag, so that your hands are free. All poles are provided

Beginners Nordic Walking Courses. (Power of Poles Intro) The next date after this one is 28th June These are a great way to get started with Nordic walking, whether for health, fitness or simply exercising effectively outside.Walking with poles is less stressful on the joints, it makes you walk faster with very little extra effort, it works your upper body as well as the legs.The result being more effective calorie burning, stronger core and toning of the upper body.The initial session is 90 minute session, you'll learn the basics of Nordic walking, gaining the skills to get the most from your own walking as well as being able to join national Nordic Walking UK and WALX classes.Once the first session is completed, two regular walks or one longer walk are included with IRBO, and everything we did in the first session will come together. (Must be taken within four weeks of the course.)Locally, you'll be able to book into any of our I'd Rather Be Outdoors Nordic Walks and you can join walks & classes, every week all around the UK. Evening walk after a day at home or in the office. This session is an hours brisk walk to help to switch off at the end of the day. It is a brisk one hour walk, with few stops. It will be at a steady consistent pace so ideal for building your cardio fitness!!
It is a social walk so you will have the distraction of chatting whilst exercising.
During the winter months head torches are essential so YOU can be seen as the route tends to be off the Comyn. During the lighter evenings there is more opportunity to take this session over fields and farmland.

Brisk and Burning
Nordic Walking can quickly build your general fitness, but adding some specific exercises will help you to perform better and keep improving your fitness.
In these walks we will do interval sessions (alternating between fast (gear 3, speedhyking) and slow (gear 2) Nordic Walking and hill drills in combination with muscular strength and endurance exercises. But we will also pay attention to balance and coordination in a variety of exercises.
This is for members with a Nordic Walking UK FREEDOM passport.

Join Nicola and Gill for a recce of a new festival route that follows the tale of the china clay heritage of Norden near Corfe Castle. We start at the mining museum (not inside as its evening of course) and wend our way through forests and over heathland following the journey taken by this unique fine white china clay used for luxury pottery and pipes.
Pretty flat as we follow tramways but there are some 'rooty' parts too.
Its a lovely walk but might be longer of shorter than billed!
