Come, spend a couple of hours on a Saturday morning exploring interesting circular walks, up hill and down dale, in the Chilterns and South Bucks areas. With a wide variety of venues and terrain to chose from you are sure to discover a few favourites. The walk will change each week, and where practical will finish somewhere with refreshments and facilities.
Enjoy sociable Nordic Walking with your fellow experienced Freedom Passport holders in a variety of locations with a mixed ability group.
Lead by accredited instructors or leaders, these walks make the most of our beautiful countryside and are a relaxing way to enjoy being active outdoors, at the same time as improving your fitness and wellbeing.
We aim for a steady pace rather than a race. We'll aim for each walk to be about 2 hours duration.
Poles available. Wear outdoor activity footwear and clothes suitable for the weather.

Starting from Blue Pool we will walk out along the heath land nature reserve, past Norden and through ancient woods taking in some of the Purbeck Way to Corfe Castle.
A quick stop at National Trust if required and then we return via a slighlty different path back to Blue Pool where we will enter the reserve and take a short tour of the area before we finish.
5 miles- uneven terrrain - with roots, some mud and tricky parts in places.
Good views of Creech Barrow Hill, Hartland Moor and beyond. We will pass the Green and Black pools and take in a loop of The Blue Pool.
There will be the opportuity for refreshments at the Blue Pool Cafe at the end of the walk.

It will bring you confidence to walk with poles. You will leave this session feeling excited about getting going.

If you love WALX to the pub or WALX with the dog or simply WALX in wild locations we have them all! Whether long, short, tough or gentle we welcome all ages and all levels.
On Fridays we like to start and end our walk (or drive a short way) at a local cafe. The walks are around 4-5 miles and take around 2 hours.

Duration - 1 hour, walk grade 2.5. Mark is away so Christine will be leading this walk. This walk is conducted at a gentle pace, with rest stops if required. Regular catch-up and re-grouping to allow people to walk ahead if required. This class combines Nordic walking with strength and balance exercises. As well as improving your cardiovascular fitness and muscular strength the focus on posture, balance and flexibility will alleviate physical stresses on your body. This is also an effective total body workout for those new or returning to exercise or seeking gentler exercise that accommodates their medical needs. You`ll feel great after completing this class! You can walk and talk but still enjoy the benefits of Nordic Walking.

The Saturday Strider is led this week by NWUK Walk Leader Sue Kelly and is an easy/moderate pace 2-3 mile, 1 hour walk. Get some great Nordic Walking exercise, fresh air and chat! They are great walks to attend to build your fitness especially if you`d like to progress onto the faster paced or longer walks.
Meeting point - We meet outside the cafe at the Visitor Centre Car Park. (Sat Nav: M27 6NG). Plenty of free parking. Easily reached via exit 16 off the M60 or exit 2 off the M61, then along the A666 and turn down Clifton House Road (follow brown signs). Bus stop: Use the Clifton Cricket Club stop on Manchester Road (Bus numbers 8 and 22). Park is a short walk down Clifton House Road.
Why not come earlier for 10.30 & join in our cafe social between the end of the Early Bird Workout Walk and the start of the 11am session.... have a quick brew (option to bring your own mug to be more environmentally friendly & save 20p on your drink too/ or 50% off if over 70 (ID required)) and have breakfast if you wish.
Toilet facilities are available at the cafe (along with the usual hot drinks and snacks).

The POWER of THE POLES is a structured programme suitable for all ages and levels of fitness. Come and discover the joys of Nordic Walking and how to turn your walking into total body exercise using strapless Total Body WALX poles which will enable you to learn more quickly and easily.
Your NWUK qualified instructor, Susan Spain, will help you understand your current level of fitness and empower you to use poles at an intensity level for the results you want. The session also includes advice on the different types of pole available including traditional strapped Nordic Walking poles.
Poles (strapless) are provided for your course.
Currently taught in a small group (max 3 plus instructor), at the end of the 90 minutes you will have a full understanding of how to use poles effectively and at a level where you can then join our Parks and Pathways regular walks and classes, sign up to other NWUK or WALX classes or simply get more out of walking in your own time.
The session price of £15 also includes your first walk with the group once you've completed your induction session. Your instructor will give you advice on which regular sessions are best suited to you. Regular walk sessions take place on Thursday & Saturday mornings at Salford venues & Monday mornings at Chorlton Water Park, Manchester (see full schedule for more info on the 1 hour Workout Walks or Motivator/Strider Walks. There are also monthly 2 or 3 hour walks on several dates a month).
There will also be an option to sign up to a second Power of the Poles 2 - 90 minute course - at a later date to enhance & refresh your technique either with strapless or strapped poles.

Disley Nordic Walks
Join us at I'd Rather Be Outdoors exploring the views of the countryside around the Parish of Disley, we have several circular routes, all starting from the War Memorial in Disley (in front of The Rams Head) where' we'll take part in a short warm-up before we head off, for our walk.
The terrain and views change from urban to rural very quickly with differing views to be had on each walk. There may be the opportunity to grab a coffee once the walk has finished.
The walks are advertised at 90mins but they may take a little longer than that, due to terrain, weather etc

Beginners Nordic Walking Courses. (Power of Poles Intro) 21st and 26th Sept These are a great way to get started with Nordic walking, whether for health, fitness or simply exercising effectively outside.Walking with poles is less stressful on the joints, it makes you walk faster with very little extra effort, it works your upper body as well as the legs.The result being more effective calorie burning, stronger core and toning of the upper body.The initial session is 90 minute session, you'll learn the basics of Nordic walking, gaining the skills to get the most from your own walking as well as being able to join national Nordic Walking UK and WALX classes.Once the first session is completed, two regular walks or one longer walk are included with IRBO, and everything we did in the first session will come together.
