Pace one
A 2k to 3k gentle WALX that incorporates balance work, flexibility and strength exercises and maybe a bit of yoga or relaxation too. On Monday these walks take place around Stanmore and Harrow Weald on mainly flat terrain but we do go on trails through the woods so that we can enjoy the changes in nature throughout the year. This is a very friendly group and we are always ready to welcome new walkers who want to get back into exercise in a safe and gradual way.
Starting in April 2025 there is also the option to sign up for the 6 week Total Body Walking Programme in the beautiful Canons Park in Stanmore which is being supported by TfL and Friends of Canons Park. This programme runs on Tuesdays and Sundays at 11am.

This walk is approximately 2.5 miles. There are a couple of alternative routes from the start depending on sign ups, the weather and the ground underfoot. The terrain is mainly flat along country lanes with some farm tracks and footpaths. The start of this walk will be relocated if it is very wet underfoot.
Gear 1 - A nice, easy and natural pace that you can do for extended periods with recovery periods where appropriate. Short hills might be introduced. Gear 1 walks are shorter and less demanding but also suitable for new walkers wanting to establish their technique.

COUCH TO 3K OR 5K CHALLENGE
Enjoy sociable Nordic walking at an easy gentle pace.
These gentle paced easy adventure walks are designed for people who haven’t exercised for a while, and those who are recovering from, or living with, illness or injury.
Mostly gear 1 with some gear 2 where appropriate over mixed terrain and lasting 45 minutes + 15 minutes for strength and resistance exercises with the poles.
On our sessions we will:
-enjoy a good chat
-take notice of nature and the seasonal changes around us
-take regular pitstops to enjoy the view
-not feel pressured to keep up with anyone
-feel proud that progress, however gentle, is still progress
-attempt to go that bit further each week
-keep track of our steps
-encourage not discourage.
We will focus on all aspects of physical and mental well-being. Strength, fitness, flexibility, core strength and even a bit of mindfulness will all be incorporated to give you an hour of fun and functional exercise.
These gentle walks will be just what you need to build up your confidence and improve your health.

This 5-week session is funded by Herefordshire Council. Each session is an hour long and aims to teach the technique of walking with poles. Nordic Walking is a total body workout, strengthening both lower and upper body muscles. It provides you with a walk that is less stressful on the joints, it enables you to walk faster, and increases all round fitness levels. The course is aimed at those who have not walked with nordic poles before, or haven't walked with poles for a long time and would like to refresh their skills.
If you would like to improve your general fitness and wellbeing, as well as enjoy a sociable walk, then come along and learn a new skill.
The course is suitable for people of all levels of fitness, poles are provided.
At the end of the 5 weeks you will be able to book onto my regular walks.

Brisk and Burning
Nordic Walking can quickly build your general fitness, but adding some specific exercises will help you to perform better and keep improving your fitness.
In these walks we will do interval sessions (alternating between fast (gear 3/4, speedhyking) and slow (gear 2) Nordic Walking and hill drills in combination with muscular strength and endurance exercises. But we will also pay attention to balance and coordination in a variety of exercises.
This is for members with a Nordic Walking UK FREEDOM passport.

This short beginner course will allow you to experience the "Power of the Poles" and get to know more about how Nordic walking can really benefit you in so many ways!
We supply the poles so all you need is:
A pair of walking shoes or trainers with a flexible sole are suggested rather than hiking boots.
Layered clothing as we can get rather hot!
A small backpack to carry any belongings and a bottle of water as you need to be able to swing both arms freely.

Jokingly called Killer Hills.! These action packed one hour walks are designed to help you to improve your fitness levels and breathing on short, sharp inclines. In the winter, it will only go ahead if a minimum of 2 people book.
From October Headtorches and high visibility jackets are required until the evenings become lighter.
For those who walk without poles and those who like to walk with poles. Many members prefer to walk with poles as they find it more effective than ordinary walking and help on inclines and descents. .When poles are used we are able to engage the upper body, core muscles, improve posture and burn more calories.

I This is a fabulous session using free weights to music to build, tone, strength the whole body. There will be a mix and varied workout which will include some floor work.
This session is delivered as a group session to help keep you motivated. You will work at your own pace using weights suitable for you.
You will need trainers and a mat for these sessions. In the summer these sessions will be outside until the evenings get dark.
