 Join us for the next stage of the Lancaster canal.  A 6.4-mile walk from the middle of Garstang along the river Wyre to start, ascending the steps alongside the wonderful Wyre aqueduct onto the Lancaster canal. Walk along the canal to Forton. We can either catch the bus back to Garstang which takes about 10 minutes, or cars which we will have popped in a layby.

A very pleasant new addition to our programme, this walk starts out from the attractive village of Bishop Monkton, and follows part of the Ripon Rowel. The route then takes the path alongside the River Ure, with views across to Newby Hall, before heading back to the start point. At just under 4 miles, the walk takes about an hour and three quarters.

 This month's extended WALX starts from Sandridge through to Heartwood Forest following part of the Hertfordshire Way and onto the Childwickbury Estate before returning to Sandridge. 

This is a moderate paced walk with bursts of gear3 covering approximately 8.5 miles.

Mostly countryside footpaths and tracks with some small sections on country lanes.

Join our  Explorer WALX at local countryside parks and nature reserves around St Albans. Visit some of Hertfordshire's beautiful countryside, on varied terrain, these walks are ideal for anyone who wants to improve their fitness and enjoy the social side of walking.

Distance: 6 miles in total (3 miles each way) Time: Approx 5 hrs including a stop.

Description of the walk: Meeting at Danson Park we will walk through the park and head along the footpaths towards Bridgen Road in Bexley where if you would prefer a shorter walk you can meet us here.

2nd Meeting point: Bridgen Road, Bexley, free parking.

Time: 10.30am From the meeting point we will cross the road and into the woods, from here we walk parallel with the River Shuttle. The walk maybe muddy if it has been raining, there are no hills on this walk. We will make a stop at the Oval for a cuppa and brunch if you are hungry, toilets are available here. After approx. 1 hr stop, we will return to Bridgen Road using the same route and then on up to the park. There are buses available if you only want to walk one way. Most of the walkfrom here is in the woods or green spaces but you may need your paws for the strapped poles, strapless poles we tend to keep the paws on all the time anyway.

   Come and join our WALX classes. To get the most from using poles in our WALX sessions, the Power of Poles is an excellent starting point.

We are excited to welcome newcomers to the use of poles to exercise the whole body whilst walking. Using poles will engage your core, improve posture and  take the weight off lower body joints. It enables you to exercise outdoors  which is great for your mental health as well.

The POWER of POLES Induction is totally unique in that it explores the use of both strapless and Nordic walking poles to aid the user gain the best technique and results! Taught over 2 sessions of 1.5 hours duration, the second being optional, the session starts with the strapless moulded handle fitness walking poles devised by WALX and FIZAN

This enables you to feel  greater core engagement and master the  elements that provide propulsion,   increased exercise benefits and make you feel lighter on our feet. Once you have mastered these essential basics you get to explore the traditional Nordic walking straps and movements.  The second session of the Power of Poles is optional and  will be listed separately  at a convenient date for you.

Total Body Walking has its origins in Nordic Walking and is the next step in your fitness journey. If you want to learn how to turn your walks into a Total Body WALX then come and join the Power of Poles induction programme. 

This course is suitable for all levels of fitness and is ideal for beginners as it is a structured teaching programme engaging participants helping them to feel the benefits of walking with poles. In this 90min session, you will learn the basics of Total Body Walking, feeling your muscles engaging in both upper and lower limbs. On completion you will gain your Freedom Passport, opening up over 2500 national WALX and Nordic Walking UK classes weekly.

Your WALX Master is specifically trained to deliver this course to benefit you the most.

It could be a set of weights or dumb-bells or, alternatively, you could use washing softener bottles or plastic milk bottles filled with water. This is a delightful and gentle scenic walk through Thorncombe Woods.

Suitable for all abilites with or without poles.

There is a wealth of wildlife – including resident Dartmoor ponies- and a varied range of mature trees and open scrubland from which, high up, there are magnificent views of the surrounding countryside with the Purbeck Hill’s in the distance. A walk not to be missed!

We will meet in car park, there is a charge of £1 per hour, to use the car park.

Throughout the walk we will be observing the social distancing as best as possible at all times.
