This is a delightful and scenic walk through Thorncombe Woods and Puddletown Forest with a slight difference, we will be working on your Hill stamina. This is for everyone who is looking to improve their Hill work that includes everyone who is looking to start doing longer walks and feels unable to do so due to hills. Everything will be taken at your own level not at the person next to you.

Suitable for all abilites with or without poles.

There is a wealth of wildlife – including resident Dartmoor ponies- and a varied range of mature trees and open scrubland from which, high up, there are magnificent views of the surrounding countryside with the Purbeck Hill’s in the distance. A walk not to be missed!

We will meet in car park, there is a charge of £2 to use the car park.

Throughout the walk we will be observing the social distancing as best as possible at all times.

The POWER OF THE POLES Induction process is suitable for all levels and is a structured teaching programme. There are 2 Courses of one and a half hours each. Course 1 is designed to provide sufficient knowledge for someone to be proficient at using poles. Course 2 is an optional further course for those wanting to explore a more in-depth knowledge of walking with poles and the traditional Nordic Technique. I will help you to understand your current level of fitness and empower you to use poles at the correct intensity in order to get the results you want.

These courses will ensure you master the technique of using poles and change the way you walk for life. Course 1 will cover the following:

Mastering the power of Fitness Walking poles

Gear 1: Mastering the arm swing, upper body engagement and pole plant angle.

Gear 2: Gaining propulsion from the pole and toe push, adapting pole position for hills and tailoring technique to your fitness, mobility and personal goals.

You will experience different poles types, the core ledge and straps in order to select the technique and poles that are right for YOU!

At the end of this session, you will have a full understanding of using poles correctly and be at a level where you will be issued with the NWUK Freedom Passport, allowing you to join walks & classes.

Dress to suit the weather, ensuring that you have suitable footwear. Please bring water in a small rucksack or bumbag, so that your hands are free. All poles are provided

Our unique WALX sessions need to be experienced

 

Total Body WALX sessions provide the opportunity to feel for yourself just how powerful walking based exercise can be when it is at the right level for you. You will be introduced to other ways to improve balance and flexibility and to boost strength, help with weight loss and make walking WORK for you

 

Many members prefer to walk with poles as they find it is more effective than walking without. When poles are used, you are able to engage the upper body, core muscles, improve posture and burn more calories

 

Learn how to WALK WELL by harnessing the power of good posture, core muscles and the perfect stride. Experience how PACE and HILLS can be empowering and how working on balance, flexibility and strength can make walking twice as effective, whatever you are aiming to achieve

 

Please bring along a small rucksack with your drink and any medication you may need
