Our Easy Thursday morning walks are a great way to practice your technique and take a gentle approach to improving your technique. Great for those new to nordic walking or those looking for an easier walk level.

Nordic Walking is a specific fitness technique and is not to be confused with trekking, hill walking or trail running as the poles are not planted in front of the walker/runner but in a specific way that increases the use of the upper body. It can be done by anybody, anywhere and does not require expensive equipment or clothing.

A more gentle walk for those with a recent medical condition that means that mobility is limited, and who feel their fitness levels have declined as a result. The challenge is still to manage an hour walk, with rests when needed. Regularly weekly walks can bring improvements.

Start of the walk is at the same time of the other group. Warming up exercises are together and we meet again in the car park for a hot drink.

With qualified Instructors guidance, they will help you to learn how to walk well and gain more out of your walking. We also look at how to be mindful within your surroundings and practice a breathing exercise.

As we look at the Total Body, you will have a chance to join in some light exercises and WALX yoga with poles (no floor work in the mud, you will be please to hear) or some general balance work.

There is something for everyone as we cater for all levels of fitness, from functional needs to marathons.

Join us for a 5 mile walk along the Lancaster canal at Garstang where we will walk over the aqueduct built by John Rennie to span the river Wyre.

We will continue to walk up the canal past the remains of Greenhalgh castle.

Come off the canal where we will head towards the old track bed of the Garstang to Knot End railway.

And then walk along the Wyre back to the car.

Following the ‘Power of Poles intro Course’, this walk provides you with an opportunity to increase your speed, while maintaining the proper technique.  

This walk is ideal for those who want to improve their fitness and health, whilst being outdoors in a beautiful setting 

Using gears 1 and 2, walking 3- 4 miles  

Please bring a flask with hot drink for after the walk.

Please note, there are no toilet facilities

This is for members with a Nordic Walking UK FREEDOM passport.

Walk Description:

START TIME 11.40 this week.  Led by NWUK Instructor Susan Spain, the Thursday Motivator Nordic Walk is an gentle/easy pace 1 hour walk. This session is ideal for those wanting to improve their fitness & who just want to have a Nordic Walk, fresh air and chat. Start times and locations vary to give variety on a week by week basis so please check carefully each week but will be in the Salford area. 

THIS  WEEK - PARR FOLD PARK, WALKDEN, SALFORD. (Start time of walk is 11.40am but why not join us at the cafe for a brew break social beforehand at 11am)

Meeting point – Meet at the cafe just inside the park entrance at the corner of Park Road & Rutland Road. From the A580 East Lancashire Road, turn onto the A575 Walkden Road. After passing Worsley College on your left, at the mini roundabout turn left onto Park Road (circa 0.5 mile from A580). Then turn left into Rutland Road as you reach the end of the park. There is a large layby to park as you turn into Rutland Road. Please don't block driveways. We will meet at the cafe, just inside the park entrance on Rutland Road by the playground. 

Google Maps  - search for 2 Rutland Road, Walkden, Worsley which is opposite the layby parking.

Toilet facilities are available at the cafe (along with the usual hot drinks and snacks).

Power of Poles Intro Session (Beginners Session)   This is a great way to get started with Nordic walking, whether for health, fitness or simply exercising effectively outside.In this 90mins session, you'll learn the basics of Nordic walking, gaining the skills to get the most from your own walking as well as being able to join national Nordic Walking UK and WALX classes.Locally, you'll be able to book into any of our I'd Rather Be Outdoors Nordic Walksstraight away and enjoy effective, total body walking on a variety of walks in different settings.Walking with poles is less stressful on the joints, it makes you walk faster with very little extra effort, it works your upper body as well as the legs.The result being more effective calorie burning, stronger core and toning of the upper body.Parking charges do apply. If you're not a member of The National Trust.   Once this session is completed you will be able to book on two walks with myself at your level.
