Walk Description:
This is a social walk for mixed abilities. Upton Heath contains all 6 of the UK native species of reptile: adder, smooth snake, grass snake, sand lizard, common lizard and slow worm. It is also a safe haven for many rare birds including the stonechat, hobby, Dartford warbler and nightjar.
We will meet at Woodpecker Drive. There is free street parking. The walk begins and ends with 5 minutes on the pavement to access the southern end of Upton Heath. There are some paths with gravel and clay, but there are also likely to be muddy areas, especially after heavy rain. We will do a circular route which passes through wooded areas and skirts around the lower section of the Heath. It is mainly flat with one small incline.
