Walk Description:

A beautiful walk up to Spetisbury Rings a single rampart Iron Age hillfort overlooking the river Stour. This has woodland nearby which we will take a loop through.

The walk climbs up the hill above Spetisbury then along to the rings. The views are stunning from this vantage point.

The descent is short and steep. We join the road briefly and cross the main Spetisbury road before going over Crawford bridge which was built in the 15th century and has nine arches. There are almost always swans in the river here.

After a few minutes on a small road we go towards Tarrent Crawford where we will stop to look in the church of St Mary. Inside are faded wall paintings, one dates from the 13th century in the chancel area of the church.

After crossing the river we walk over fields and several bridges until we reach the water meadows near Spetisbury.

The last section is on an elevated walk way above a private garden.

The Shack/Marcia's farm shop opens at 12 md to serve meals/coffee etc. Outside toilets located at the back.

This walk has an area that can be wet so wear appropriate footwear.

The paths are narrow and uneven. They can be overgrown in places. Short sections on roads.

Sometimes the route is reversed to add interest. There is one stile.

Please ignore the bit saying "Model Dairy Farm" as I unable to remove this from the instructions.

Location Notes:

The turning into Clapcotts Farm is opposite Spetisbury Primary School. It is at the far end of the village if you are coming from Wimborne on the right hand side on A350. The turning is tucked awayso look for Marcias Market sign....There is large un-tarmacked parking area where we can park.
