Walk Description:

A sociable Nordic walk at an easy gentle pace for all those with LONG TERM HEALTH CONDITIONS and their carers.

Delivered in partnership with WATFORD BOROUGH COUNCIL, these gentle paced easy adventure walks are designed for people who are living with long term health conditions (and their carers) and who have completed either a POWER OF POLES INTRODUCTION course or our ARMCHAIR TO ACTIVE programme.

Mostly gear 1 with some gear 2 where appropriate over mixed terrain and lasting 45 minutes.

Led by accredited instructors/leaders who have undertaken specialist training these walks make the most of our beautiful countryside and are a relaxing way to enjoy being active outdoors.

For people living with long-term conditions, the benefits of physical activity far outweigh the risks and physical activity is safe, even for people living with symptoms of multiple long-term conditions

One in four people in England live with a long-term health condition, and those in this group are twice as likely to be inactive, despite evidence that being active can help manage many conditions and reduce the impact and severity of some symptoms.

How does Nordic Walking help?

One of the main benefits of Nordic Walking is that you can really walk at an intensity to suit you, depending on your condition, how you feel on the day, your medication etc. This walk will be YOUR PACE and you can stop and rest should you need to.

The poles are supportive of the muscles and joints and can provide confidence if you have balance issues. The friendly and sociable nature of our groups means that you benefit from meeting like-minded people and of being in nature.

If you need to hire some poles, please email nordicwalkingwatford@gmail.com, due to the partnership with the Council pole hire is free but is subject to availability.

CANCELLATIONS

You are free to cancel your booking using the booking system up to the start time of the walk.

Please bear in mind that the walk leader may have already left home and may not pick up a late cancellation in a timely manner.

If you are cancelling within an hour of the walk, please try to contact the walk leader personally to let them know you are not attending.

Please ensure your PARQ is up to date and you discuss any changes to your health or medication with your walk leader.

Please also ensure that you have any medication that you might need with you for the walk.

We would ask you to arrive at least 10 minutes before the start time of the walk so that you can get warmed up safely.

Location Notes:

The official car park is at the bottom of Cassiobury Park Avenue / Gade Avenue (WD18 7LG). Go past the Watford Met Line station to the bottom of the hill then turn right into the car park. The car park can get very busy. Please note you will need to display a car parking ticket - it is free parking for up to 2hrs. The meeting point is at the furthest end of the car park, near the disabled parking bays and the Cassiobury Park information sign post. This is a lovely area of parkland, rivers, nature reserves, children's areas, and it links into the Whippendell Woods area as well (see below). There is a cafe. The Adventure walk may take you by parkland, canal, rivers, cross the golf course or circle Whippendell Woods finishing with a loop of Cassiobury Park. Routes from this venue may include paved pathways, woodland footpaths, tracks and open fields and gentle inclines. LOW LIKELIHOOD OF MEETING LIVESTOCK Toilets are available at both the Cha Cafe and Daisy's.
