Walk Description:

We’ll kick start our senses (and our body) with a warm up in the field adjacent to the car park at the Spooky House Westward Ho! before beginning our walk.

If the tide is in - we will practice our gears along what was once the Bideford to Westward Ho! Railway constructed in 1901 to Abbotsham Cliff beach. Here the going is easy which will aid our NW techniques. The gullies and crevices of the beach are home to lobsters, shrimp and Conger eels (no time to fish I’m afraid). If extremely lucky we might just spot a porpoise or seal among the kelp. Once we have mastered the techniques we will return along the same path to the field in which we warmed up to complete a fun filled circuit. After a good cooldown, well-earned refreshments await us in a smart and contemporary venue offering spectacular views of the local coastline.

If the tide is out - we will practice our gears along the promenade, noting the historic poem written by Rudyard Kipling etched into the concrete before navigateing our way down the ramp and onto the beach where once again a fun filled circuit awaits us. We will then return along the promenade at a more leisurely pace and complete our cool down and stretches before seeking refreshments in the Pier House Pub.

During particularly inclement weather - We will walk within the shelter of the hill utilising the Zig Zag route while ascending/decending the Kipling Tor.

Location Notes:

The Pier House offers all facilities with FREE parking in the nearby car park
