Walk Description:

Note 10.20am meet up for a prompt 10.30am start. Led this  month by Walk Leader, Miriam Kletz The '2024 Ice Cream Friday Tour' is a series of monthly walks of moderate pace, of between 5 & 7 miles, ideal for those who love ice-cream and great countryside walking locations around Lancashire & Cheshire!  They will be led by our walk leaders Ruth Evans & Miriam Kletz & run monthly on a Friday between April & September 2024. Get some great Nordic Walking exercise, fresh air and chat!

THIS MONTH - Join Miriam for the second  2024 Ice Cream Tour walk of the year, this month starting from Burr's Country Park, Bury (The Lamppost Cafe) with a circular route taking in Falshaw's Ice Cream Farm Parlour. This six mile walk starts and ends at Burrs Country Park. The Lamp Post cafe at Burrs CP where we meet opens at 9am so why not come earlier, have breakfast & a brew first & use their toilet facilities before we set off. We start by heading out of Burrs CP towards the tiny hamlets and villages of Buckhurst and Nangreaves, a model village in its’ heyday as a cotton mill. Now occupied by numerous families of all ages with a sympathetic restoration of the mill into dwellings. We return to Burrs via Falshaw's ice cream farm and café, a variety of flavours all delectable, outside seating if it’s fine or inside if not, with a brew too. Much of this walk is across farmland and the going may be uneven, if there has been a lot of rain it will undoubtably be wet under foot. There are several stiles some of which may be stone steps set in the dry stone wall. Walking time is approximately 2.5hrs with 210m of ascent but allow 3.5 hours in total as the stop at Falshaw's is approx 2/3rds of the way around the route and our return time depends on how long we stop there.

Meeting point: Burrs Country Park outside the Lamppost Cafe. Woodhill Road, Bury BL8 1DA. Exit Junction 2 of the M66 and follow A58 into Bury. Turn right onto Crostons Road (B6214). Follow brown signs for Burrs Country Park. Turn right onto Woodhill Road. Sat Nav BL8 1DA is for Lamp Post Cafe in the park. Plenty of free parking (if space is available follow Woodhill Road into the park, past the first car park on the right and park higher up). The park gets very busy so consider where to park access-wise so you don't get blocked in. Lamp Post Cafe opens at 9am.

What3Words: ///shaped.trip.region will take you to the Lamp Post at Burrs CP but parking area is before you reach this point.
