MIKE`S LONGER 2-3 HOUR TUESDAY WANDERER WALK (meet at 10.20am for a prompt 10.30am start time) - Led by Parks and Pathways Walk Leader Mike Podmore. It will be a moderate pace 2 -3 hour walk of around 5 to 8 miles from different locations taking place once a month when Mike is available.

THIS WEEK - Roman Lakes and the Peak Forest Canal from the Ring O' Bells, Marple.  This is an undulating walk of approx 5 miles is on excellent tracks/paths the whole time. From the pub car park we join the Peak Forest canal & then follow country lanes before crossing the River Goyt whichis where we can see the site of the original Mellor and Marple Lodges (which originally belongedto Samuel Oldknow and the Mill Manager respectively). We then pass the 3 Roman Lakes andBottoms Hall before passing under a viaduct which carries the Hope Valley railway line. We pass Strines Millponds and the site of the old Printing Works before crossing the River Goyt again to join a track which gently climbs up to the Peak Forest canal which we follow back to the start. No toilet facilities at the start but plenty of options for 'wild' on route. Optional post walk lunch at the Ring O'Bells (let Mike know if you want to stay for lunch when you book).

Meeting point – Meet in the car park at the Ring O’Bells pub (130 Church Lane, Marple, Cheshire, Stockport SK6 7AY). Leave the M60 at Junction 27 & take the A560 exit. At the Portwood roundabout, take the 5th exit onto St Mary's Way/A6188/A626. After half a mile turn left onto Hall St/A626. After 3.8 miles turn right onto Church Lane. Turn off Church Lane onto Waterside and the car park is at the rear of the pub on Waterside.
