Walk Description:

Join us for an adventure in two halves or if you prefer the morning and enjoy further exploration on your own in the afternoon.

Walking round Port Sunlight, admiring all the different architecture used to create this purpose-built village by Lord Leverhulme for his soap empire.

Many of the buildings are listed and the war memorial is grade 1.

Visit the church where you will see Lord and Lady Leverhulmes final resting place. You feel quite peaceful as you walk round.

After lunch, time for looking round the art gallery and museum or walk down one of the old track beds that was used by the factory to another smaller purpose-built village built about 30 years earlier. Prices candles.

After this we will head over to the Port Sunlight River Park, which used to be the dock that Lever used.

Admire the views across to Liverpool and along the Mersey. This has been built on an old refuse tip.

Morning walk 3 miles, Afternoon walk 6 miles.

Lord Leverhulme house – Bridge cottage, lever rented this cottage while Thornton Manor in Thornton Hough was being built.

Church – Leverhulme paid for the church personally, he was a religious man but worshiped in the non-conformist tradition.A

Art Gallery – More than a national collection, art gallery of national importance.

Garden centre – originally a gymnasium and open-air swimming pool with water supplied from the factory.

Port Sunlight River Park – originally the site of the dock that lever used for bringing in the raw materials for the soap making process.
