Walk Description:

With a focus on nature, this walk will revisit Knighton Park and the University of Leicester Botanic Garden to see how the landscape has changed since we last visited. Entrance to the arboretum and gardens is free of charge, and we will have plenty of time there to appreciate the natural world and it's plant diversity. There is always something to catch the eye, be it crocuses and primula in the spring, fuschias and summer bedding, colourful autumn leaves or hardy winter flowers like witch hazel and cyclamen. Not only will you get to experience this across the seasons, but you will be improving your health and fitness at the same time by being out in the fresh air, striding out with purpose, and making those muscles move, setting you up for the week ahead.

Meet: Knighton Park Car Park (off Palmerston Way/A563 RingRoad). Free Parking.

Pace: Steady, to suit the group. Walking poles are NOT required to enjoy this activity.

Terrain: Knighton Park and the Botanic Garden are mixed terrain venues with paths of various different composition. We will use pavements to transit between the two, but to fully appreciate the plant life may also use undefined walkways which could get muddy if the weather hasn't been so kind.

Clothing: Please wear clothing appropriate to the weather conditions at the time. Bring, at the very least, a lightweight rain coat, and wear layers to help manage changes in temperature during the time of the walk. Avoid wearing jeans, which can rub, and cause chills if they get wet. Wear sturdy footwear suited to walking on open ground and paths. Walking shoes or boots are recommended, but strong trainers would be acceptable on this walk. Avoid pumps, slip on shoes and wellington boots.

Refreshments are not available at this venue. Toilets are available at Knighton Park and the Botanic Garden.

Elevation: Negligible inclines.
