Walk Description:

MIKE`S LONGER 2-3 HOUR TUESDAY WANDERER WALK (meet at 10.20am for a prompt 10.30am start time) - Led by Parks and Pathways Walk Leader Mike Podmore. It will be a moderate pace 2 -3 hour walk of around 5 to 8 miles from different locations taking place once a month when Mike is available.

THIS MONTH- Little Leigh and the Weaver Valley by River and Canal from the Leigh Arms, Little Leigh, Northwich. This walk is 6.5 miles long, is relatively flat except for 3 gentle climbs and is on good tracks throughout the walk. We leave the pub car park to join the North Cheshire Way which follows a scenic path along the course of the Weaver Navigation to Saltersford Locks. A second waterway, the Trent and Mersey canal, is then reached via country lanes where we follow the towpath before crossing over the top of Saltersford tunnel. Country lanes and fields then take us into the village of Liitle Leigh from which we descend to rejoin the canal. After a short while, we leave the canal to follow country tracks along the edge of a wood to rejoin the Weaver Navigation near Dutton Locks which takes us back to the start. After the walk, there is the option of a brew or a spot of lunch at the Leigh Arms pub. Let Mike know if you want to stay for lunch when you book the walk.

Toilet facilities available at the end of the walk at the Leigh Arms or if need be, stop at the Let's Eat Cafe just before the crossroads of the A49/A533 before arriving at the meeting point. May be muddy in places after heavy rain.

Meeting point - The Leigh Arms, Little Leigh, Northwich. CW8 4QT. Leave the M56 at junction 10 and follow the A49 Tarporley Road to the village of Bartington. After 4.2 miles, just before you cross the River Weaver bridge turn left into Willow Green Lane, Little Leigh and pub is on the right. Parking is in the pub car park.
