Walk Description:

Stourpaine to Shillingston Forest round to Durweston Mill

This is a beautiful walk taking you through the Stour Valley from Stourpaine looking over towards Hod Hill and Hambledon Hill before turning away to Shillingston Forest.

We enter the forest area with a little steep hill and then moving onto a long gradual slope up towards the ridge. Before we get to the top there is a short very steep section which you can take your time over.

Once on the ridge you will have wonderful far reaching views looking over towards the Isle of Wight. We descend through an amazing glade coming out onto fields just before Durweston.

We go through the Durweston Village and down a lane to the Mill which has a large pool area. Then a short walk back through Stourpaine to the cars.

Unfortunately there are no facilities that we can use however the White Horse pub on the corner of the main road is now open for custom.

Walk 2 - This is a harder walk which has steeper hills to reach the top of Shillingston Forest.

It is equally beautiful as the walk above however we are taking a slightly different route going past the Durweston Mill and then up into the forest via Durweston Village.

We will meet up with the Walk 1 path once on the ridge and then follow a similar route back.

Location Notes:

Stourpaine Playing Fields car park is at the end of Havelins in Stourpaine. Turn left onto South Holme from the A350 which is right next to the White Horse Pub. Follow the lane down to a cross roads. Havelins in front of you just slightly to the right.
