Walk Description:

Note 10.20am meet up for a prompt 10.30am start. Led by Walk Leader, Miriam Kletz  The Fire up your Friday walk is an moderate pace of around 5-6 miles, ideal for those who who would like to build their distance and stamina. The walks are based in countryside locations easily accessed from the East Lancashire Road (A580) or M56/M60/M62/M61 corridors.  Get some great Nordic Walking exercise, fresh air and chat! When allowed/feasible there is an optional brew stop at a local cafe or pub after the walk or sometimes a bring your own mid walk 'Rucksack cafe'.  

THIS MONTH - Join Miriam at Cutacre Country Park with an optional post walk lunch at the nearby Hulton Arms.  Cutacre CP is on the Little Hulton, Salford/Bolton Border just off the A6, easily accessible from the M61 junction 4. A reclaimed colliery site, it is alive with wildlife, with numerous small ponds & if you look carefully you may also find a 'black diamond'! This is a walk of 5.5 miles. The paths are mainly well surfaced but can be puddly. The site is quite exposed (hence the views) so dress for cold winds or hopefuly 'blazing sunshine'. There are no toilets at the car park or during the walk but you could come earlier for a pre walk brew & toilet stop at Costa coffee which is a very short drive to the walk meeting point carpark (search on Google Maps for Costa Coffee Drive Thru, Cutacre Lane, Bolton BL5 1FN, two minutes from the meeting point). If you want to stay for the post walk lunch at the Hulton Arms, please let Miriam know by Tuesday evening 6th August). 

Meeting point -  Cutacre Country Park Car Park, Rosemary Lane, Off Salford Road, BL5 1BS. From the M61 travelling northwards, leave at junction 4 (or alternatively head out of Salford along the A6). At the bottom of the sliproad take the first left off the roundabout onto Watergate Lane. At the next roundabout turn right onto the A6, Salford Road. After 0.3 mile (after passing the Whistl warehouse) turn left into the car park off Rosemary Lane. No toilets available at start but are available at the nearby Costa Coffee or local pubs after the walk (or before if you get there early). Limited options for going wild as no dense vegetation.

PLEASE NOTE, you need to have your own poles to attend this walk as no poles will be available for hire on the day unless by prior arrangement. 

We will be walking on both grass and paths so make sure you’re wearing supportive shoes/trainers/boots with a good tread that you are happy to get dirty and comfortable clothing appropriate for the weather. Paws will be required (on and off on different terrains). 

Please remember to bring 1 - bottle of water and an energy boosting snack 2 - any medications you may need 3 - a small rucksack as you`ll need both hands free at all times 4 - a mobile phone is useful for any last minute notifications. Depending on the time of year you may need sunscreen, insect repellent and a hat ( if hot) and gloves, warm clothing and a flask (if cold!).

Likewise, please phone/text as well as using the online system if you want to book on at the last minute - we don`t want to go without you!

From the M61 travelling northwards, leave at junction 4. At the bottom of the sliproad take the first left off the roundabout onto Watergate Lane. After 0.3 mile (after passing the Whistl warehouse) turn left into the small car park with a small sign for Cutacre off Rosemary Lane.
