Walk Description:

This sociable moderately paced walk makes the most of our beautiful countryside and is a relaxing way to enjoy being active outdoors.

Put together by Oxfordshire charity 'Standing with Giants', there are 1,475 silhouettes representing the number of British Soldiers killed on a single day, 6th June, 1944, as part of the WW2 D-Day landings. This is a beautiful & very thought provoking memorial exhibition, including copies of letters written home from soldiers who knew they would never see home again.

Some of the silhouettes were previously displayed, April - August this year, at The British Normandy Memorial in Ver-sur-Mer, France. A small number was also at Stowe last year, but now the whole collection is being displayed in The Grecian Valley at Stowe until 11th November, 2024.

This booking is for our Perimeter walk only, our route will take us past the end of the Grecian Valley, not officially in the NT gardens but you will get a good view of the silhouettes from our path. If you would like to see them up close and spend more time, then we recommend you re-visit the gardens after our walk.
