Walk Description:
Our Monday morning walks are a great way to practice your technique and take a gentle approach to improving your technique. Great for those new to nordic walking or those looking for an easier walk level.
Todays walk: A easier morning walk at starting at Pewsey Downs car park. We will do the easier route round Milk Hill - enabling most of us to get a great walk that is not too difficult with great views. The route is 3.5 miles.
IF YOU PREFER A LONGER MORE INTENSIVE WALK THEN JOIN THE EARLIER WALK AND DO 7 MILES BY 11:30!
Notes: Park at Main car park on the Alton Barnes to Marlborough road - called Pewsey Downs car park. Make sure you have some water and a hat as the conditions maybe hot.
Nordic Walking is an enhancement of ordinary walking – it makes something we can all do… twice as effective! Nordic Walking uses poles to in order to add two major benefits to walking.
The use of poles means the upper body muscles are used as well as the legs The poles help to propel the walker along – this means he/she works harder than usual yet the support given by the poles makes it feel easier!Nordic Walking is a specific fitness technique and is not to be confused with trekking, hill walking or trail running as the poles are not planted in front of the walker/runner but in a specific way that increases the use of the upper body. It can be done by anybody, anywhere and does not require expensive equipment or clothing.
Note: To participate in regular Nordic WALX, you must have completed our Nordic Freedom Course.
Location Notes:
Pewsey Downs National Nature Reserve The reserve is located by the Alton Priors White Horse, one mile north of Alton Barnes at the base of Knap Hill. A car park is situated on the minor road leading from Alton Barnes to Lockeridge, which continues to join the A4 west of Marlborough. Please note the postcode is not exact.
