Walk Description:
Canford heath is one of the largest remaining areas of heathland in Dorset. An SSSI of 344 hectares.
It has a feeling of wildness about it with stunning views towards Poole harbour and the Purbecks.
The walk starts from the roadside and goes uphill to begin on an uneven path with stepped areas.
The path widens and meanders across the heath dropping down to pass through woodland.
A circular walk on different paths takes us across the heath before a switch back of paths leads us back
down to the road. There are several hills on this route including a climb up steps.
Nearest toilets would be at the pub in the Canford heath shopping centre. No toilets in Asda or the garage.
Option for coffee/cake/snacks at The Den in Francis ave in Wallisdown. This is a vintage/retro/antique store
with parking by the road. They have toilets. BH11 8NX
(Autumn 2024; roadworks on the main road back to Wallisdown. Best to travel from the Gravel hill side.)
Location Notes:
Park where the road goes downhill with railings beside entrance to the heath. Free on road parking. Nearest toilets in pub beside Asda nearby. No toilets in Asda or the garage. A couple of short steep slopes on this walk.
