Walk Description:

Enjoy sociable Nordic walking at an easy gentle pace.

Delivered in partnership with THREE RIVERS DISTRICT COUNCIL, these gentle paced easy adventure walks are designed for people who haven’t exercise for a while, and those who are recovering from, or living with, illness or injury.  

Mostly gear 1 with some gear 2 where appropriate over mixed terrain and lasting 45 minutes.  

Led by accredited instructors or leaders, these walks make the most of our beautiful countryside and are a relaxing way to enjoy being active outdoors.

CANCELLATIONS

You are free to cancel your booking using the booking system up to the start time of the walk.

Please bear in mind that the walk leader may have already left home and may not pick up a late cancellation in a timely manner.

If you are cancelling within an hour of the walk, please try to contact the walk leader personally to let them know you are not attending.

Please ensure your PARQ is up to date and you discuss any changes to your health or medication with your walk leader.  

Please also ensure that you have any medication that you might need with you for the walk.  

We would ask you to arrive at least 10 minutes before the start time of the walk so that you can get warmed up safely.

PLEASE USE W3W TO LOCATE THIS VENUE The car park in the southern part of the woods at the junction of Prestwick Road (B4542) and Woodside Walk Nearest postcode: HA6 3EX The car park open 8 am to 6 pm and is free to park - security cameras are in place. A one hundred hectare woodland with an easy access sculpture trail just waiting to be explored. Natural sculptures found along the way depict the wildlife and history of the woods, and benches provide opportunities to stop and take in the peace and tranquility. For more energetic users the woods contain several longer trails, numerous footpaths to explore and an orienteering course. Oxhey Woods is the largest Local Nature Reserve (LNR) in Three Rivers District. The woods are an important Wildlife Site, notable for the unusual Wild Service Tree. Sometimes known as the ‘Chequers Tree’ because of its distinctively patterned bark, the leaves and berries form the LNR logo. Some parts of the LNR are ancient woodland, having been continuously wooded for at least four hundred years, and possibly up to ten thousand years. Features such as sunken pathways, earth banks and ditches can be seen. In the past, these earthworks often marked boundaries between different land uses and ownership. There are no toilet facilities.
