Walk Description:
Note 10.20am meet up for a prompt 10.30am start. Led this month by Walk Leader, Miriam Kletz The '2024 Ice Cream Friday Tour' is a series of monthly walks of moderate pace, of between 5 & 7 miles, ideal for those who love ice-cream and great countryside walking locations around Lancashire & Cheshire! They will be led by our walk leaders Ruth Evans & Miriam Kletz & run monthly on a Friday between April & September 2024. Get some great Nordic Walking exercise, fresh air and chat!
THIS MONTH - Join Miriam for the Last of the 2024 Ice Cream Tour walks of the year, this month starting again from Burrs Country Park, Bury (The Lamppost Cafe) with a circular route taking in Jersey Girls Ice Cream Farm Parlour. This 5 mile walk starts and ends at Burrs Country Park. The Lamppost cafe at Burrs CP where we meet opens at 9am so why not come earlier, have breakfast & a brew first & use their toilet facilities before we set off. From our start point, we head northwards to Lower Summerseat, following the Irwell sculpture trail alongside the East Lancs Railway. We turn at Summerseat and follow the railway and river towards Tower Farm, now dwellings but an impressive façade. We return to Burrs via the Kirklees trail and nature reserve, steeped in history there is plenty of industrial archaeology to trip over before we arrive at Jersey Girls, which is a 5 minute walk from the car park. They serve light lunches as well as ice cream but there isn’t much undercover seating! Walking time is approximately 2.5hrs with 125m of ascent
Meeting point: Burrs Country Park outside the Lamppost Cafe. Woodhill Road, Bury BL8 1DA. Exit Junction 2 of the M66 and follow A58 into Bury. Turn right onto Crostons Road (B6214). Follow brown signs for Burrs Country Park. Turn right onto Woodhill Road. Sat Nav BL8 1DA is for Lamppost Cafe in the park. Plenty of free parking (if space is available follow Woodhill Road into the park, passed the first car park on the right and park higher up). The park gets very busy so consider where to park access-wise so you don't get blocked in. Lamppost Cafe opens at 9am.
What3Words: ///shaped.trip.region will take you to the Lamppost at Burrs CP but parking area is before you reach this point.
