Walk Description:

NOTE THIS IS A shorter 2 HOUR/4 mile WALK THIS MONTH - SUSAN`S LONGER 2-3 HOUR TUESDAY WANDERER WALK (meet at 10.20am for a prompt 10.30am start time) - Led by Parks and Pathways Walk Instructor, Susan Spain. 

THIS MONTH - Susan's Xmas Lunch Walk - Canals, Locks and Waterways, The Bridgewater Way from Stretford to Castlefield with optional Xmas lunch at the Wharf, Castlefield. This is a completely flat linear walk of around 4 miles and is suitable for most people who can walk the distance. This interesting walk will take in the regenerated Bridgewater Canal passing through some of Manchester & Salfords Industrial heritage via Stretford Marina, Waters Meeting, Old Trafford Football group, crossing over several footbridges on route though to Castlefield. Return to Stretford will be by tram from Deansgate Castlefield (so bring your debit card to tap in & out to pay). Walk will finish at the Wharf by 12.30. Please let Susan know if you are staying for Xmas Lunch so she can sort out the booking. 

Poles can be hired on the day for £1 (coin)

Meeting point - Lacy Street Car Park. There are no toilet facilities at the start unless you go into Stretford Mall where there are public toilets next to the British Heart Foundation Shop, (nearest entrance Broady Street next to Costa Coffee & Aldi)  Toilets available at the end of the walk in The Wharf.

Go by Metrolink - Nearest Tram Stop is Stretford.

Car Parking is in the Lacy Street Car Park, accessed from the main Chester Road via Newton Street. Sat Nav M32 8LS.  (If you use Google Maps then search for Lacy Street Car Park). Parking costs £1.20 all day. You can only access the car park from Chester Road on the side travelling from Manchester city centre i.e. on the opposite side to Stretford Mall. There is additional paid parking if required in Stretford Mall surface or multi storey car parks. 

We may be walking on both grass and paths so make sure you’re wearing supportive walking boots or shoes/trainers with a good tread that you are happy to get dirty and comfortable clothing appropriate for the weather. Paws will be required (on and off on different terrains).

Please remember to bring 1 - bottle of water /hot or cold drink 2 - any medications you may need 3 - a small rucksack as you`ll need both hands free at all times 4 - a mobile phone is useful for any last minute notifications. Depending on the time of year you may need sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellent and a hat ( if hot) plus hat, gloves, warm clothing and a flask (if cold!). 

Please note - you can cancel online up to the evening before the walk. Unfortunately, automatic refunds are not allowed after this time. Please contact Susan directly via phone/text on 07738 931710 if you need to cancel nearer to the start time so we’re not waiting for you. Likewise, please phone/text as well as using the online system if you want to book on at the last minute - we don`t want to go without you!

Location Notes:

The meeting place will be in Lacy Street Car Park (accessed from Chester Road via Newton St) and costs £1 for all day. The car park can only be accessed from the main Chester Road on the opposite side from Stretford Mall as the road is a dual carriageway. Alternatively, you can get the tram to nearby Stretford Tram Stop if you don't want to drive.
