Walk Description:

Lochore Meadows was designated as country park in 1976. It had been a centre for coal mining from 1904 and the last active colliery, The Mary, closed in 1966. In that time, seven pits had been excavated within the area occupied by the Country Park today. The closure left a scarred and derelict landscape. Reclamation work included flooding a large area to create Loch Ore. It is one of the largest ever reclamation projects of Industrial sites in Europe.

Location Notes:

Enter park from Crosshill and park near the Willie Clarke Centre. Good parking, information, cafe and toilets
