Walk Description:
We’ll kick start our senses (and our body) with a warm up designed to prepare both body and mind for the activity.
We’ll start on the site of historic Fremington Quay, (which until the mid-20th century was a working port) before getting into our stride along the firm sand/stone beach, taking in the calm horizon and rolling hills across the estuary to the rhythmic sound of the waves on the shore.
We’ll then swap the rolling waves for rolling countryside by following the well-used public bridleway and navigate our way through some quite deep water filled ruts. We’ll do a third scenery change and descend along the newly completed footpath to the Tarka Trail below.
Here the going is easy and offers the opportunity to practice our gear changes but wary of other users as this part of the trail is very popular with dog walkers and cyclists.
We will then head inland on our ‘’return to the Café’’ route following well-trodden hedge lined undulating footpaths, exciting your nose with the local flora (be sure to have your hay fever tablets on you!) and listening to the songbirds along the way. We’ll finish by following the lane through a hamlet before crossing several stiles and fields (beware of disturbing the Shetland ponies and horses that roam this area) before returning to the flat/firm standings of the Quay for the cool down. It’s important to gently cool our muscles down and stretch them out in order to improve our range of movement. We’ll then indulge in some homemade refreshments in a very popular and welcoming venue.
