Walk Description:

Christmas Walx 10 - Winter Solstice - Avebury with Mince Pies and Mulled Wine

Avebury - Winter Solstice Time Afternoon Walk with Mulled Wine and Mince Pices.

Today our walk is a special afternoon walk at 2:15pm. - Avebury to enjoy the atmosphere around the time of the Winter Solstice. We will walk around the stones into the sunset and then enjoy some mulled wine and mince pies as the sun goes down.

We will meet at the NT car park at around 2pm. This gives you time for a wander around the village and shops before the walk. The NT cafe will be open and the Avebury Manor will have its Christmas exhibition on where all the rooms which are styled in different eras from Elizabethean to 20th Century are decorated for the Christmas theme. This year its 12 days of Christmas.

We will start our walk from the NT car park and walk via the stones avenue to the iconic beech clumps and then back via the stones (we will avoid the farmyard today as will be very muddy). It is likely the walk is going to be muddy and slippy so please wear waterproof pants/shoes if possible.

After the walk we will end back at the car park and have some mince pies and mulled wine as the sun goes down.

Park at NT car park (NT members free) or ask about a car share from Marlborough. If you need to borrow poles or ask about car share or pass please send me an email or direct message on FB.

Please note you need to wear suitable shoes for nordic walking - walking shoes or lightweight boots are fine as long as they are flexible enough.

We will enjoy our mulled wine and mince pies after the walk out of the back of cars. I'll have the mulled wine and a non-alcoholic fruit punch but please bring your own cup (and/or your own drink if you dont want mulled wine/punch)

MINCE PIES & FESTIVE TREATS - We will have come of Bev's famous mince pies, stollen available BUT please bring something to share especially if you have food allergies.

Location Notes:

The NT car park has charges but is free to members. If you are not a member I have one spare car park pass which I allocate on a first come first service or you can park in the Red Lion pub which is £3 and then walk back to meet us at the main car park. There are toilets in the village near Avebury Manor.
