Walk Description:
A very interesting area to walk with its geology and geography and wild life. It is abundant in history of ancient times and more recently of a vibrant working community. We will pass a deer park a community woodland and enjoy superb views.Lyth Hill provides, arguably, some of the best panoramic views of the south Shropshire Hills, from The Wrekin in the east to Wenlock Edge in the southeast, and the Stiperstones in the southwest. The site has areas of woodland, scrub, and open grassland providing a wildlife refuge on the outskirts of Shrewsbury. Historically, ropemaking was carried out on the site and the author Mary Webb, author of 'Precious Bane', lived in Spring Cottage on the edge of Lyth Hill. Like the countless visitors who take a walk around Lyth Hill, she was inspired by this stunning landscape. Distance 4 miles, duration 2hrs. An easy walk no stiles. Terrain Foot paths, lanes open fields and stoney tracks. Start and finish first car park on Lyth Hill at the end of Lyth Road. OS Explorer 241 Grid ref: SJ476070.
