Walk Description:

Leaving the Wimborne Football Club we will walk down to the main Leigh road to cros over to Leigh

common and By the Way Fields.

This area has an interesting history. It was an extensive area of wet grasslands with meadows and

ponds.

It was used as the holding area for cattle on their way to Wimborne market in the early 1900's.

Grazing declined around 40 years ago. Hay is cut here in the summer.

A very popular area for dog walkers and also has a play area near the carpark.

In 2011 the site became protected and was Dorset's first SANG. Suitable Alternative Natural Green

Space

for outdoor recreation. 

Aside from the woodland area which is a bit wet just at the entrance and has leaves on the paths, the

remaining paths are gravel and easy to walk on.

In total the route is 2 miles and will be taken at a sociable pace. It is completely flat and ideal for

anyone getting back to walking.

We are being welcomed by the Football club to go in for coffee after the walk. The perfect chance for a

good catch up with everyone.

Anyone at Andrea's Wellness can pop in on their way home if that suits but just let me know so I can

give numbers to the club.
