Walk Description:
Rockford common is an area of open heathland and woodland. The area is rich in wildlife and is an SSSI.
It is usual to see New Forest ponies and donkeys.
From the carpark a short walk uphill takes us up to the lowland heath. The paths are mainly grassy or gravel and can be muddy.
There are stunning views in every direction as we circle back with the area of Mockbegger on our right.
At the end of the walk is a viewpoint towards Blashford lakes nature reserve which are former gravel pits.
Hockey's farmshop and cafe is a three minute drive for optional refreshments after our walk. Toilets in the carpark.
In the Autumn the pannage starts and the Forest has pigs foraging for acorns.
The walk is about 4 miles.
(This walk extends when the ground id dry and we can access Lindford, the river and the Great Linford enclosure.)
Location Notes:
Plenty of free parking. No facilities but this car park is just along the road from the Alice Lilse pub. It is near the Blashford Lakes and you can get to it off the A338 or from the A31 Poulner exit. Nearest cafe/deli/butchers/toilets is at Hockey's farm shop 5 mins away.
