Walk Description:

We’ll kick start our senses (and our body) with a warm up in the the car park before beginning our walk along the path on the outskirts of the village.

The Kipling Tor is named after The Jungle Book author, Rudyard Kipling, whose schooldays here in the 1870’s inspired his novel Stalky and Co.

We’ll climb up through the wood zig zagging our way along a very narrow and uneven path running parallel to the summit which offers magnificent sea views and the Westward Ho! vista. The climb onto the Tor is worth the effort especially when at its end is the Lookout post, (decorated by local school children) with the best views of Bideford Bay. From here you can see the white Saunton Sands hotel. The beach below has featured on Pink Floyd album covers, a Robbie Williams music video and was a training ground for American GIs during WWII.

We will carefully start our descent down a steep, narrow footpath until we reach sea-level and join what was once the Bideford to Westward Ho! railway constructed in 1901. Returning to our meeting point for a good cooldown, well-earned refreshments await us in a smart and contemporary venue (Pier Hoiuse) offering spectacular views of the local coastline.

Location Notes:

The Pier House offers all facilities with FREE parking in the nearby car park
