Walk Description:
Step into the weekend with our two-hour (or just over) , 5-mile local walks!
This scenic walk begins in the heart of Crich village, heading west along quiet lanes and footpaths towards the charming hamlet of Crich Carr. From here, the route meanders through picturesque countryside to the historic Duke’s Quarries, where remnants of the area’s sandstone quarrying past are nestled among beautiful natural surroundings. Continuing on, we pass through Wakebridge, a site steeped in industrial heritage, before crossing the heritage tramway line of the Crich Tramway Village.
The final stretch ascends to Crich Stand, also known as the Sherwood Foresters Memorial. At the summit, you’ll be rewarded with stunning panoramic views across Derbyshire and beyond. This walk combines gentle terrain with moments of ascent, offering a blend of natural beauty and historical interest.
For refreshments, we can consider stopping at the Crich Stand Tea Room near the memorial or enjoying the local cafés and pubs in Crich Village, such as The Loaf or The Red Lion at the Tramway Village. This walk is a perfect way to explore the area’s rich history and breathtaking landscapes.
