Walk Description:

Special Spring Event - fancy a bit of a challenge.

Join WALX Dorset for a day out on Portland where we will walk around the coastline followng the SWCP.

This walk is a tough but delightful walk, exploring the perimeter of the Island. There are breathtaking views over the harbour and the Jurassic Coast, the eastern side has huge boulder cliffs that are teaming with wildlife whilst the western coast has views all the way to Lyme Bay on a good day and the Bill has it racing rocky waters that swirl aound the tip of the island.

This walk is 10 plus miles. It is uneven terrrain in parts, with mmany ups and downs, steps, a section with a steep incline towards Chesil Beach and some grassy tracks that can be muddy of slippy in wet weather. We will follow the SWCP of the Island but the walk starts at a car park on the island where there is a cafe for us to celebrate at the end of the walk.

We will aim to walk at a comfortable pace as stamina is more important than speed. If you have not walked 10 miles before you may need to check you are able to cover at least 7 miles before the day and be comfortable with up and down steps and uneven terrain. But feel free to contact the leader if you are unsure.

Bring water and refreshments for the day we will have several stops along the route for snack and lunch.
