Walk Description:

RUTH'S LONGER 2-3 HOUR TUESDAY WANDERER MONTHLY WALK (meet at 10.20am for a prompt 10.30am start time) - Led by Parks and Pathways Walk Leader Ruth Evans. It will be a moderate pace 2.5 -3 hour walk of around 5 to 8 miles from different locations taking place once a month when Ruth is available. 

THIS MONTH – High Lane to the Cage in Lyme Park, from the Red Lion, Buxton Road, High Lane. Join Ruth for a new circular walk from High Lane up to the Cage in Lyme Park. The 5.5 mile walk will start and finish at the Red Lion pub on the A6 in High Lane. The walk route avoids the main A6 route to Lyme Park, and skirts along the hillside, behind the houses of High Lane, and follows the railway towards Disley, until we get to the entrance to Lyme Park. From there we take the path up to the iconic Cage and marvel at the view – weather permitting! We descend to Lyme Hall, with all being well, a quick stop for coffee and toilet break providing we make good time. We continue out of Lyme Park via the car park, and head down and along the hillside, in a northwards direction, to the Macclesfield Canal, from where it's a short walk back to the Red Lion – and lunch for all those who want to participate! Please let Ruth know if you want to stay for the post walk lunch at the pub when you book onto the walk so she can book a table. 

There are no toilet facilities at the start of the walk, but there are in Lyme Park by the cafe mid walk. 

Meeting point: The Red Lion pub car park, 112 Buxton Road, High Lane, Stockport, SK68ED.  From the M56 take the A555 Airport Relief Road or alternatively the A34 Wilmslow/Handforth bypass & take the A555 slip road to Buxton/Bramhall/Woodford/Poynton. Follow the A555 to its end, where it meets the A6, after approximately 4.8miles. Turn right on to the A6; the Red Lion is about 1.4 miles further on, on your right. We meet in the car park.

POLE HIRE: contact Ruth if you need to hire poles for the walk (she has one set of strapless poles and one set of traditional strapped poles available). £1 coin on the day to Ruth.  

We may be walking on both grass and paths so make sure you’re wearing supportive walking boots or shoes/trainers with a good tread that you are happy to get dirty and comfortable clothing appropriate for the weather. Paws will be required (on and off on different terrains).

Please remember to bring 1 - bottle of water /hot or cold drink 2 - any medications you may need 3 - a small rucksack as you`ll need both hands free at all times 4 - a mobile phone is useful for any last minute notifications. Depending on the time of year you may need sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellent and a hat ( if hot) plus hat, gloves, warm clothing and a flask (if cold!).

Unfortunately, automatic refunds are not allowed after this time. Please contact Ruth directly via phone/text on 07963 893629 if you need to cancel nearer to the start time so we’re not waiting for you. Likewise, please phone/text as well as using the online system if you want to book on at the last minute - we don`t want to go without you!
