Walk Description:

Our walk from Newport takes us out through the rolling Essex countryside along the Harcamlow Way.

After about 5 miles we come to the extensive Audley End estate and walk around its boundaries, eventually reaching the impressive Jacobean mansion.  We can have a picinic and some refreshments before heading to Audley End Station in the village of Wendens Ambo.

NB Audley End is an English Heritage property so there is a fee to pay to enter unless you are an EH member. Depending on the number on the walk we may be able to picnic in the grounds. Please let Sue know if you are an EH member.

Our longer Explorer WALX are open to all, exploring beautiful areas in and around London. Routes are planned with breaks and the opportunity for refreshments but this isn't just a ramble; we'll encourage the good posture and motivation to push yourself as we do in all our WALX.

If you'd like to benefit from using Nordic walking poles, we advise you attend a Learn to Nordic WALX workshop. Walkers without poles or with trekking poles are very welcome.

Monthly Payment clients £10; Pre-paid Credit clients £16 - price adjusted at payment.

Time and Travel:  We need to catch the 9.28 am train from London Liverpool Street as there is only one train per hour that stops at Newport. Buy a return ticket to Audley End and we will get off one stop before on the outward journey.

Approximate finish at Audley End station is 3 pm; there are 2 trains an hour from Audley End to London.

Distance: 8 miles approximately of easy walking on a mixture of good country footpaths and a section of road at the end.
