Join MK Nordic Walking for an early morning Winter Solstice Nordic Walk at Woburn! Walk will be approx 90mins - 2hrs, weather permitting with half an hour or so to watch the sun rise. Wrap up warm.
Weather permitting, bring a hot drink and we'll watch the sunrise (8.06am) over Woburn Deer Park. Why not join us for a bit of breakfast in Woburn after the walk. Will need to confirm numbers asap.
The Winter Solstice signals the shortest day of the year and the start of the return to longer 'daylight' hours. Ancient cultures and many today see the Solstice as a time of rebirth, welcoming back the light and a time to look forward.
Given this history, it’s perhaps no surprise that winter solstice has taken on spiritual significance as a full-on cause for celebration in cultures worldwide.
Ancient Scandinavians celebrated the Feast of Juul (or Yule), for instance, which involved burning a yule log for days to honor the winter solstice. In China, the Dongzhi Festival takes place, featuring worship of the heavens and ancestors.
Whatever you call it (YULE is another common name in paganism), winter solstice is “typically celebrated with communal gathering, sharing of food and drink, and a balance of joyous celebration and personal reflection,”
Please bring your hi vis, it won't be properly dark but probably rather 'dim', safety first.
Please check with Emma if you have any questions regarding suitability.
