Walk Description:

A gentle fitness session walking and with other activities, taught by retired doctor and nurse, sociable and followed by a cafe visit. A prescription of Wellbeing for allcomers

These friendly gentle Nordic walking fitness sessions or wellbeing walks will suit you if you are worried about pace or distance. These sessions will help you become fitter and stronger, if you have medical conditions, joint problems or are returning to exercise after being inactive.  We take in to account your abilities and plan the route accordingly so you can be sure to exercise at the pace that is right for you. Nordic walking is interspersed with balance, strength, relaxation and smovey work outs. Castle Park offers varied terrain on well-maintained paths, an athletics track, and an incline which to helps raise your heart rate.

Roy`s Story "Following a consultation with a spinal surgeon, at the end of a series steroid injection to my lower spine, I was advised that the only way forward was surgery, (at my age-77) with a risk assessment of medium to low success rate, at best walking with the of sticks or at worst a wheel chair, you can imagine how I felt at this time.  On hearing this, a member of my family suggested that I should contact Kerley for advice and my suitability to join one of her "Wellbeing" groups.  This I did in June 2012 and to date I have enjoyed weekly sessions; I use the word "enjoyed” as mentally, my self esteem has returned, I see future not in a wheelchair, but on walking poles, physically I am able to walk 2 miles and see this increasing as spring and summer comes.  The sessions last about an hour and comprise a warm up, fairly flat walk with aid of poles (which have greatly helped straightening both my back and my gait), upper body strengthening period, and cool off period; which leaves one happily tired, but with a feeling of having achieved something physical, and strong desire to return in a week’s time."  Roy
