Happy 2024 Norfolk Nordic Walkers!
It’s a brand new year – and even though your trousers (like mine) may be feeling a tad snug after the Christmas / New Year festivities, fear not. We are ready to embrace the elements, explore new routes, zip up the gaiters, weather the muddy tracks and HIT / HIIT 2024 with energy, zest and positivity. You may be waking up full of beans, excited about a fresh crisp year ahead, or you may be hoping the next two wintery months fly by as you are not a fan of the darker days. Either way, it’s a given that we all benefit from having a plan – putting dates in the diary which focus our minds and keep us on track…and moving forwards.
…IN IT TO WIN IT – SOME SUGGESTIONS TO TAKE US INTO 2024…
-Set yourself challenges within your current sessions – If you usually walk towards the back of the group, try aiming to be in the middle, even if it’s just for a couple of sections during the walk. If you’re comfortably in the middle why not stride out towards the front? Maybe attack those hills in our Whitlingham and High Ash venues or aim to walk further than everyone else by “looping the group.”
–Try a harder class – If you’re ‘cruising’ in your current class why not try a different one? There’s a great deal of overlap between our classes (all our Gear 2 – Gear 3 walks are brisk) and whilst many of our Nordic walkers are “super brisk”, very few started off that way. We all delight in seeing the fitness of others and ourselves improve and we are here for the same reasons, to keep fit, active and enjoy our exercise, so don’t be afraid to branch out and move up a gear!
–Join one of our longer 4.5 mile+ walks – 10am Wednesdays at Blickling, 10am Fridays at Reepham and 9.30am Saturdays in various glorious locations. These are for those of you who want to increase your walking to build up stamina and fitness. Plus there’s the lovely cafés at the end in which to re-fuel and put the world to rights.
–Try something NEW like a ZOOM class – We may not always have TIME to fit in all the walks we would like per week but there are daily ZOOM classes to get you going – all are FREE to monthly members and vary from high impact HIIT sessions to evening Yoga and Pilates.
Why not sign up to Friday’s 8.15am Stretch and Flex class with me and give it a whirl.
-Put your name down for a BIGGER challenge – Last year Rachel and I LOVED training for our marathon challenge and on the day the 26 miles melted away. So this year we sure are marathoning again (can’t wait to start training again!!!) PLUS we are going the EXTRA mileage also by signing up for the Norfolk 50K Ultra to extend ourselves further.
-How about a Half Marathon in July? We are going to exclusively hold a Norfolk Nordic Walking Half Marathon (only for our members) for all of you who fancy a 13.1 mile walk (Sheringham – Weybourne – Salthouse Heath -Holt – Kelling – Sheringham Woods – Beeston Common – FINISH) as a group – complete with medals for finishers AND a post-walk celebratory al fresco lunch together (WITH a cool beer!).
We will hold one Saturday training walk per month to get your legs ready (March: 5 miles, April: 7 miles, May: 9 miles, June: 11 miles) so that on the day, you will ENJOY every step. More details in Feb newsletter…
…WE LOVE A TEAM APPROACH!!!!
There is nothing quite like being part of a team. It’s refreshingly brilliant. So Becky and I are thrilled to have Rachel joining us – especially because her forte is the Norfolk Broads area! Ta dah! Rachel is just completing her Walk Leader training and is looking forward to leading one Saturday walk per month. It’s going to be brilliant to have her on board to add in weekend variety so between us we can offer diverse locations ALL OVER Norfolk. What’s not to like??? We can’t wait to welcome her on board. She will be a fabulous addition to our NNW Team.
JUMP STRAIGHT BACK IN THIS WEEK…
Well – clearly LOTS of you are as excited as I am about getting back out there as this Wednesday’s 10am Blickling walk is FULL FULL FULL (I have extended to 18+!!!!).
I ONLY have 4 spaces left on the 11.30am Blickling Walk – GRAB em while you can!
On Saturday it’s a brand NEW 6 mile route through Bayfield Estate, Glandford and up through Wiveton Downs. We end with a Car Boot Picnic. This walk is FULLY BOOKED but it’s always worth adding yourself to the Waiting List as you never know!
Week beginning 8th January it’s the FULL SCHEDULE back on full throttle!!!!!
