SETTING CHALLENGES – TRAINING FOR A HALF OR FULL MARATHON…

HELLO Norfolk Nordic Walkers,

 

Who’s up to set themselves a challenge in 2023 and walk a HALF MARATHON in September?  It’s an amazing achievement for those of you who want to up your training and work towards a goal. It’s on the North Norfolk Coastal Path and it’s a stunning route.  If you want to join us and train together, you need to able to walk 6 miles at a steady Gear 2 pace by June and be committed to training to build up to the Big Day. 23rd September!  Read all about it below:

(I know this feels like miles away but it’s important to plan ahead and book up your long Saturday training walks and put the dates in your diaries!)

 

There is a small group of us going the EXTRA (13.1) MILES and training up for the full marathon.  The training for this is open only to experienced half / marathoners. 

 

HOW DOES THE TRAINING WORK?

You need to walk (or run!)  BRISKLY 3 times per week for 3-4 miles.  THIS DOES NOT HAVE TO BE ALL NORDIC. You need to do a longer walk each Saturday – these will vary in distance but there are KEY TRAINING WALKS which will start to really build up your stamina.

 

  • ALL THE SAT WALKS ARE OPEN TO ALL REGARDLESS OF TRAINING BUT EXTENSIONS WILL BE ADDED (Eg doubling up distance) ONLY FOR THOSE TRAINING (e.g July 15 is 4 miles – then doubled to 8 miles for Half / Marathoners and then doubled again to 16 miles only for marathoners.)
  • ON KEY DISTANCE TRAINING WALKS WE WILL ALSO FOCUS ON HYDRATION / NUTRITION / SHOES / SOCKS / PACE / TECHNIQUE
  • TRY ALSO TO BOOK ON ‘NORMAL’ 4-6 MILE SATURDAY WALKS TOO 

We are going for the 16 week plan for a Half and Full Marathon. Nobody needs to start training for it before this apart from regularly walking and exercising.  But come June, commitment is required……
