Walk Description:

Shinrin Yoku is the Japanese concept of forest bathing, a mindful approach to connect with nature using all your senses to interact with a forest or woodland.

There is no specific set time to this session as the experience will lead the journey but this introduction to Shinrin Yoku will run for about two hours. Although no set time, the longer we spend in the ancient woodlands of Highgate Wood, the greater our opportunity to forge a connection with nature.

The session will incorporate periods of sitting and gentle walking. There is no equipment (no need to bring your poles) but dress for sitting outside (you may want an extra layer). While you may already practice mindfulness on your own, your instructor Phyllis’s role is to inspire you to slow down, be present, awaken your senses and cultivate a relationship with nature.

Some of the benefits of this practice include: reduced stress and anxiety, achieved through reduced cortisol levels and blood pressure; improved mood, where nature promotes a sense of belonging and overall well-being; and better focus and creativity, achieved through immersion in natural settings.

Following this experience, you are very welcome to join Phyllis and others at Queen’s Wood Cafe afterwards for a light lunch.

Location Notes:

Meet just inside Highgate Wood. Use the entrance by the traffic lights road crossing, opposite the entrance to Queen's Wood. Use what3words for precise positioning.
