Walk Description:

A walk through lowland heath.

The heath is made up of lowland, wetland, grassland and heather with pines and birch woodlands.

A green flag awarded park. There is a lot of work in the park at the moment to restore the heathland.

The trees like pines and other invasive species are being removed to allow the heather to regenerate

and to help the wild life.

Most of the trails are wide gravel tracks but there are areas which have tree roots. 3/4 of the walk is flat

the rest slightly undulating. There are usually conservation grazing cattle on both sites.

We will walk for approx 5.5 miles, around 2 hours. This includes crossing over to the South park.

From the top are far reaching views.

We can stop at the toilets on our route back before returning to the cars.

Parking is at St Ives End lane and we access the country park over a foot bridge/steps.

Park at the footbridge end where the small residential park is.

(In the season for ground nesting birds dogs must be on short leads.)

Nearest toilets outside the park are at Greggs on the way in from the main road.

Location Notes:

Parking in road near residential park home site. Entry to Avon Heath over pedestrian bridge. Toilets in the park. Cows on site. (CP)
