Walk Description:

Discover rural Derbyshire on this largely circular route from the iconic Heage Windmill, exploring quiet footpaths, canal lines, country lanes and open fields as you follow sections of the Pentrich and South Wingfield Revolution story.

The walk begins at the windmill and soon leads down through fields and stile crossings towards the former line of the Cromford Canal, where level towpaths offer a restful section beside water and woodland. Continuing onward, the route climbs gently back towards Lower Hartshay, then heads across farmland and through gates towards Park Lane and the farm tracks beyond. The final stretch takes you along village roads past historic buildings, including the parish church and traditional village pubs, before returning to the windmill finish point.

This walk combines gentle climbs, open pastoral landscapes and historical landmarks — all with moderate terrain and plenty of interest for walkers keen to enjoy countryside views and local heritage.

At the end of the walk there is the option to visit the Windmill.
