Walk Description:

A beautiful walk starting from The view Coffee Shop high above Milton Abbas.

We take a path downhill through bluebells and wild garlic to admire this stunning village lined with

thatched white cobb cottages. Lord Milton decided with Capability Brown to create a new landscape and

pulled down the old town in the 1780's. New cottages were erected for his estate workers in the next

valley out of sight.

Then up into the woods with glimpses of the privately owned lake.

Some steep walking here rewarded by a ruined chapel. By now we can see the Abbey and school across

the valley. The walk does become muddy for about twenty minutes before joining a lane then back in

front of the Abbey. We can visit the Abbey and read about the history From King Athelstan's 934

Charter of the Abbey to the opening of the school in 1935.

Returning on the other side of the lake then back through the village walking up the main street to a

different path leading back to the cafe and welcome refreshments.

This walk is partly on good paths but has narrow and sometimes muddy paths too. Good boots essential.

Some hilly sections.

Location Notes:

If you are heading from Winterbourne Stickland direction, follow the road up to the village go through the village without turning towards famous row of thatched cottages. Follow the road round until you see a large field on your left. This is the sports field and your location , there is a turn into this area near the buildings.
