Discover the hidden beauty of the Derbyshire Dales on this scenic circular Explorer WALX, taking in historic villages, rolling farmland and sweeping countryside views.
Our adventure begins in the fascinating market town of Wirksworth, renowned for its rich lead-mining history, narrow streets and independent character. Leaving the town behind, we climb steadily into open countryside towards the charming hilltop village of Kirk Ireton, where traditional limestone cottages and magnificent views make this one of Derbyshire's most attractive villages.
From Kirk Ireton, we continue across peaceful farmland and quiet country lanes towards Idridgehay, enjoying a landscape of hidden valleys, ancient hedgerows and open fields that few visitors ever discover. Along the way, we will be close to the historic Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, a reminder of the area's industrial heritage.
The return journey brings us back towards Wirksworth through more beautiful countryside, offering a wonderful mix of woodland, rolling hills and panoramic views across the Derbyshire Dales.
