Walk Description:
3-mile circular route starting and ending at Culliford Crescent, follows wide, well defined paths made up of gravel, sand, and compacted earth, with only gentle slopes and no steep sections. The route crosses open lowland heath characterised by sandy soils, heather, and gorse, before passing through areas of mixed Scots pine and birch woodland, and running close to two small natural ponds and boggy zones that support typical wetland vegetation such as reeds and rushes. Throughout the walk there are clear open views across the nature reserve, with sightlines towards nearby housing and distant woodland edges, and it is common to see wildlife including Dartford warblers, stonechats, common lizards, and dragonflies near the water features.
Location Notes:
Free road parking on Culliford Crescent and Knowlton Road, and the Heath access is almost opposite this junctiion. Alternatively park at Canford Heath Asda, or by the local shops and Haymoor Pub, and walk through the paved path between Asda and McColl's. Allow 5 minutes from here.
